Linux Training and Certification

Formal Training

LOSURS does not offer any formal training at this time. Of course, if you're willing to put some effort into exploring and learning on your own, then we're certainly willing to give you a hand with learning about Linux.

If you're really looking for formal Linux training, the University of Regina's Centre for Continuing Education offers a handful of Linux classes as part of their collection of computer courses. They currently offer Linux for Absolute Beginners, Linux Installation and Administration, and a course focusing on Linux and the Apache Web Server.

If that's not quite what you're looking for, you can contact the folks at SIAST Wascana Campus's Computer Education programme (one of the extension programmes). As of this writing, they are not offering any Linux courses, but they do maintain a list of requested courses, and they are close to having enough requests to convince them to offer a few Linux courses.

Linux Certification

There are several options for Linux certifications. The Linux Professional Institute is an independent body offering a carefully designed and vendor-neutral certification programme; LPI exams are available locally. SAIR Linux and GNU Certification also offers vendor-neutral certification. Alternatively, many distributions offer their own certifications, such as Red Hat's RHCE. These certifications often also include specific focused training courses.
